DANDRIDGE – Jefferson County was able to bounce back from a gut-wrenching loss to Halls to defeat Morristown-East and improve to 2-0 in Class 6A Region 1.

The Patriots took an early 7-0 lead and rode that to halftime, as both teams’ defense were on display in the first half.

Morristown-East would receive the second half kick and went the length of the field for a touchdown by Eli Seals. The point-after attempt was no good, however, as Jefferson County still led by a score of 7-6.

The Patriots would respond immediately by scoring to take a 14-6 lead in the third. The Hurricanes then scored to cut the Jefferson County lead to 14-12.

The Patriots would tack on two more touchdowns to pull away from Morristown-East by a score of 28-12.

“I thought we would be able to score when we needed to,” Jefferson County head coach Spencer Riley said. “In the first half, they made some adjustments and we didn’t to a very good job of adjusting to them.”

Jefferson County (3-2, 2-0 Class 6A Region 2) and the Hurricanes (0-5, 0-2) will both have the coming week off to rest before resuming play.
