BY BRIAN HAMILTON KNOXVILLE – Carter did not start the season the way Coach Justin Pressley had hoped after a solid showing in last week’s jamboree at Knox Central. The Hornets kept pace with Webb early, trailing just 19-14 at the half, but a 27-point second half by the Spartans sent Carter home with a 46-21 loss. BY BRIAN HAMILTON STRAWBERRY PLAINS – Carter survived by the skin of its teeth again, as Wilson came through in the clutch with a touchdown run to give the Hornets a 24-19 win over Morristown West. The game featured a total of 38 penalties for 375 yards. The Trojans took a 3-0 on its first drive when Caleb Santana connected on a 28-yard field goal with 10:03 remaining in the first quarter. Carter falls to Anderson County 48-14 on Thursday Night Rivals

BY BRIAN HAMILTON CLINTON – Carter fell behind early and fast on Thursday night, as the Mavericks raced to a 35-0 halftime lead and took sole possession of first place in the region with a 48-14 win. Anderson County jumped on Carter early by intercepting a tipped pass by Chandler Wilson and returning it 55 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. Karns’ Bishop runs for 5 touchdowns as the Beavers defeat Carter 48-25

BY BRIAN HAMILTON KNOXVILLE – Carter’s defense was thrashed by Karns’ star running back DeSean Bishop on Friday night, as the junior torched the Hornet defense for 352 yards and five touchdowns in a 48-25 win. Karns got on the board first when Bishop went into the end zone from two yards out, giving the Beavers a 7-0 lead with 8:46 left in the first quarter. Carter notches another comeback win at Coalfield

BY BRIAN HAMILTON COALFIELD – The Carter Hornets and the Coalfield Yellow Jackets scheduled a last minute game after Carter’s original opponent Scott cancelled due to COVID-19 and Coalfield’s original opponent Oakdale also cancelled. Instead of having a home game, the Hornets made the 47 mile trek to Coalfield just to get another game in. The game was a classic, as Carter notched a 34-30 comeback win after trailing 18-0 in the first half. Carter suffered its first setback of the season, falling to the Mustangs 42-14. Walker Valley got on the board with six minutes left in the first quarter when quarterback Ryan Lay found Tristen McCann for a 71-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead. The game was the first region matchup for both teams and Carter held a 24-18 lead in the all-time series going into the game. BY BRIAN HAMILTON SEVIERVILLE – Sevier County took on the Carter Hornets on Saturday night in a game that was televised on Rivalry Thursday. The game was played and broadcast on Saturday to make up for Thursday’s lack of a game, since the University of Tennessee plays. The Smoky Bears were missing approximately seven starters for the game, including several key starters on defense, which meant there would be a good chance of a shootout. BY BRIAN HAMILTON STRAWBERRY PLAINS – Carter came from behind and stunned Webb 26-21 on Friday. The Hornets opened the season at 1-0 for the first time since a 46-34 win over Knoxville Halls in 2015. It was also the first time Carter has won a home opener since 2015. The Hornets trailed 7-0 after the first quarter and had three touchdowns called back in the period.
