Sevier County players have record setting night in 42-0 win over Heritage

SEVIERVILLE – Sevier County kept Heritage winless on Thursday night, as quarterback Collin Shannon threw for 283 yards, helping him surpass the school passing record of 6,288 career yards.

Linebacker Garrett Hawkins also recorded 10 tackles, making him the Smoky Bears’ all-time leader in tackles.

Sevier County opened the game with an 80-yard touchdown drive to take a 7-0 lead with 10:29 remaining in the opening quarter.

Heritage would fumble on its first possession, giving the Smoky Bears a short field, which led to another score, putting the Mountaineers in a 14-0 hole less than three minutes into the game.

Sevier County took a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter and was looking to go in for another score when Shannon threw an interception inside the 10, which was returned by Kameron Moats to the Mountaineers’ 30-yard line.

The Smoky Bears held a 28-0 lead at halftime.

Sevier County would score with 5:03 in the third quarter to set a running clock, leading 35-0. The Smoky Bears led by 35 after three quarters. Sevier County would score one more time with under four minutes left for a 42-0 win.

Collin Shannon finished the game with 283 yards and three touchdowns on 15-for-22 passing.

Sevier County (5-3, 2-2 Class 5A Region 2) has won three straight after starting the season 2-3 and will travel to Campbell County (6-2) next Friday night for a non-regional game.

Heritage (0-8, 0-4 Class 5A Region 2) will host Lenoir City (2-6) in a non-region matchup, as the Mountaineers still search for their first win of the season.
