BY BRIAN HAMILTON SEYMOUR – The King’s Academy traveled to Chattanooga on December 13 and came away with a hard fought 46-38 win over Silverdale Academy. Many expected a similar game on Saturday afternoon, but unlike the matchup in December, the Lady Lions shot much better and coasted to an easy 25-point win over its East Region foe. “We shot a lot better than we did down there and we kind of picked up the intensity a lot,” TKA head coach Dante Turnipseed said after the game. “They put a great third quarter together and we were able to withstand …
Lions lose heartbreaker as Berean Christian rallies from 13 down in the fourth
BY BRIAN HAMILTON SEYMOUR – The King’s Academy put together two impressive quarters on Thursday night, but unfortunately, one of those was not the fourth quarter. Both TKA and Berean Christian struggled to get much going offensively in the first quarter, but the Lions followed that by executing to near perfection in the second and third quarters, leading by as many as 16 points in the third quarter. The King’s Academy took a 13-point lead into the final frame, but failed to score a basket from the field, as Berean outscored the Lions 17-4 in the fourth to win 63-60, …
Lady Lions blast Berean Christian 89-17
BY BRIAN HAMILTON SEYMOUR – The King’s Academy came back from an 11-day layoff due to winter weather and laid an egg at Grace Christian on Tuesday, as the Lady Lions lost their first district game in 64-61 in overtime. “We were a little salty about that and we had to get back out and get a win and get our motor going,” TKA head coach Dante Turnipseed said after the game. “I think we needed that, to be punched in the mouth by Grace (Christian) and to know that we’ve still got to play basketball. Nobody is scared of …
Maryville defense forces 20 turnovers in 68-28 route of TKA
BY BRIAN HAMILTON SEYMOUR – Maryville got off to a hot start early on Friday night and never looked back, outscoring The King’s Academy 18-5 in the first period, en route to a 40-point, 68-28 win. The Rebels forced 20 TKA turnovers, turning many into points, while only committing three turnovers in the contest. “When your defense has that much pressure it ignites your offense and being able to do that really got us going and got us feeling good about the game,” Maryville coach Wes Lambert said after the game. “When you feel good, you play good. I’m proud …
Back in the saddle again: Lady Lions outlast Providence Christian to earn Final Four berth
BY BRIAN HAMILTON SEYMOUR – They were partying like it was 2020 in Tibbets Gymnasium on Friday night, as the TKA girl’s basketball team earned its first trip to the Final Four since 2020. TKA defeated Providence Christian 71-62 on Friday night, in a neck-and-neck game that was much closer than the final score indicated. Seniors Juleigh Anne Tucker and Leah Thornton were freshmen on the 2020 team and the only two players on the roster who have experience playing in a state tournament, as reserves. This time, Tucker played a much bigger role than 2020, as her 28 points and six …
