Eagleton escapes after Pigeon Forge second-half rally falls short

BY BRIAN HAMILTON MARYVILLE – Eagleton picked up a crucial district win on Monday night, as the Royals held off a Pigeon Forge comeback for a 70-63 win. Eagleton saw a 14-point lead midway through the third quarter dissipate to a 1-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but resiliency was what helped the Royals come away with the win. “We didn’t cover the middle, but Pigeon Forge did a lot of stuff to make that happen,” Eagleton College & Career Academy head coach Scott West said after the game. “They spaced it well and (Chris) Fudger’s a real nice …

Norwood finished the game with a career-high 38 points as Pigeon Forge would go on to defeat Eagleton College & Career Academy 70-37 in an important district contest. “Kiley wouldn’t get her 38 without her teammates,” Pigeon Forge head coach Paul Reagan said after the …

Rebels take down Morristown West behind Martin dunkfest

Morristown West had no answer for Knox West’s size, as Martin and fellow senior Kevin Jack were able to have their way in the frontcourt and on the glass, as the Rebels came away with a 74-53 win. The win was a huge morale builder for West after having over one week off to bask in its last minute defeat in the Sevierville Winterfest Shootout …

Lady Trojans demolish West 73-18

BY BRIAN HAMILTON KNOXVILLE – Knox West was outmatched on Monday night, as Morristown West scored early and often, building a 24-2 first quarter lead, en route to a 73-18 district win. While a comfortable blowout win is nice, Morristown West head coach Johnny Gaylon is more concerned with how his team executes down the stretch. “We’re playing more to be in the right spots,” Gaylon lamented after the game. “We weren’t necessarily worried about the scoreboard and we talked about that. We know Knox West is young, but we were just trying to get a little momentum for Friday …

West loses late lead, falls to Lipscomb Academy in Winterfest Shootout finals

BY BRIAN HAMILTON SEVIERVILLE – Knox West jumped out to an early lead and led most of the way during the Winterfest Shootout finals against Lipscomb Academy, but were unable to hold onto the lead late. The Rebels clung to a 63-62 lead with less than a minute left until Lipscomb’s Nick Duke nailed a three with 45 seconds remaining to give the Mustangs a 65-63 advantage. West was never able to score again in the waning moments, falling 68-63. “They’re a very talented bunch and we knew that going in,” West head coach Tommy Eggleston said after the game. …
