BY BRIAN HAMILTON MARYVILLE – Sevier County traveled to Maryville on Friday night and denied William Blount their second win of the season, while the Smoky Bears picked up much needed momentum heading into a regional game with major playoff implications with a 28-21 win. “Nothing came easy,” Sevier County head coach Todd Loveday said. “Every game has been a four-quarter game and it is good to end the game on offense like we did.” After a scoreless first quarter, William Blount got on the board early in the second when quarterback Matthew Clemmer ran for a 1-yard touchdown, putting …

BY BRIAN HAMILTON KNOXVILLE – Alcoa was coming off a narrow 30-27 loss to Class 6A #2 Maryville when the Tornadoes took their talents to Knoxville on Friday night to face the Class 5A #1 West Rebels and it was a classic. The Tornadoes would finally break through with three seconds left before halftime on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Caden Buckles …
Heritage still winless after 51-0 loss to Knox Central
BY BRIAN HAMILTON MARYVILLE – Heritage attempted to throw the ball more than usual against Knox Central on Friday night. The strategy did not help, however, as the Mountaineers were shut out 51-0. “We thought we could throw the ball, especially on first down, because of the way they played their coverages and left some guys open,” Heritage head coach Tim Hammontree said after the game. Heritage quarterback Wesley Deck threw for 103 yards and an interception on 16-of-25 passing. In previous weeks, Hammontree used a power-spread attack with running backs Cayleb O’Connor and Daniel Foxx. Knox Central’s Frank Johnson …

Burks for 10 yards, putting the Rebels in front 7-0 with 7:38 left in the first quarter. The senior then found …
Sevier County falls to undefeated West 20-19
BY BRIAN HAMILTON KNOXVILLE – Sevier County traveled to West to face the Class 4A top-ranked Rebels on Friday night and fell in heartbreaking fashion 20-19. “I wouldn’t trade for any other team,” Sevier County head coach Todd Loveday said after the loss. “They keep practicing hard and playing hard. We don’t worry about who we’re playing.” The Smoky Bears took an early 7-0 lead when Garrett Hawkins ran for a 4-yard touchdown in the first quarter. A West fumble was recovered by Sevier’s Stephen Cain, giving the Smoky Bears good field position again. Sevier County capitalized on the turnover …
