As we prepare for Week 1 of High School Football in Tennessee, we have placed the 19 football teams in our coverage area into a Top 10 list. These rankings are based on players that are returning to the team from last year, each team’s performance during the jamboree games, and a team’s previous records. With that said our preseason top 10:
- Jefferson County
- Sevier County
- Pigeon Forge
The Alcoa Tornadoes top the list as they are defending their Class 3A State Championship with a 2021 record of 14-1. Maryville finished 13-1 for the season and made it to the 6A State Semifinal. Jefferson County is looking to make it past the first round of the 6A State Playoffs this year and improve their 6-5 overall record from a year ago. Carter is in a similar position as Jefferson County coming into the season, they were 6-5 on the season and taken out in the first round of the 4A State Playoffs. In 5A, Sevier County has a 7-4 season but would also like to make it past the first round of the playoffs this year. Gatlinburg-Pittman finished the season 7-5 after making it to the 2nd Round of the 3A State Playoffs, losing to eventual champion Alcoa. The King’s Academy finished the 2021 season at 8-4 thanks to two COVID wins, they hope to make it past Round 2 of the DII-A State Playoffs in 2022. Pigeon Forge has a great 2021 season finishing at 9-3 but losing to Alcoa in the Class 3A State Quarterfinal. Last year, Morristown West made it to the First Round of the Class 5A State Playoffs and ended with a 5-6 season. Rounding out our Top 10, Seymour finished last year at 6-5 making it to the Class 4A State Playoffs First Round.
