BY BRIAN HAMILTON COSBY – Seymour was able to overcome a slow start, as the Lady Eagles trailed Cosby throughout the first quarter but managed to grab the lead and coast to a 45-32 final behind the scoring of sophomore Kalyn Jarvis. The Cosby Lady Eagles jumped out to an early 13-9 lead over Seymour, thanks in part to two three-pointers by Shylee Shelton and one triple by Gracie Johnson. The Eagles held a 21-14 lead midway through the third quarter, but was unable to score in the second half, as the Mavericks scored 25 unanswered to win 39-21. Anderson County received the opening kick and drove 65 yards to paydirt, as Cody Miller found Walker Martinez for a 28-yard touchdown with seven minutes left in the first quarter. Seymour defeats Grainger to clinch first playoff berth since 2015
BY BRIAN HAMILTON RUTLEDGE – Seymour clinched a playoff birth with a 35-14 win over Grainger on Friday, one year after going winless. “The turnover game is very important,” Seymour head coach Scott Branton said. “Whoever wins the turnover battle and runs the football better usually wins.” Seymour forced seven Grainger turnovers and slightly outrushed the Grizzlies 131 to 125. BY BRIAN HAMILTON SEYMOUR -Top-ranked Class 4A Greeneville came into Seymour Friday night and poured it on the Eagles Friday night by score of 66-7. The Greene Devils amassed 320 of their 412 total yards in the first half, cruising to a 56-7 halftime lead. Madon Gudger ran in for a 1-yard touchdown to give Greeneville a 7-0 lead with 9:01 left in the first. Gudger scored his second touchdown of the night on a 42-yard score, giving the Greene Devils a 14-0 lead.
