Lady Highlanders weather slow start to defeat Pigeon Forge 61-21

BY BRIAN HAMILTON PIGEON FORGE – Gatlinburg-Pittman had trouble getting shots to fall early on, as senior Maddy Newman started the game on the bench. Pigeon Forge was able to stay within striking distance in the first quarter, trailing only 8-4, but Newman began to make her presence felt once she entered the game, as the Lady Highlanders cruised to a 61-21 win in the ‘Battle of the Tunnel’ on Tuesday night. “She missed shootaround and didn’t go to the game Friday (at Oneida) because she was sick,” Gatlinburg-Pittman coach Katie Moore said of Newman coming off the bench. Jasper continuously forced mistakes and turnovers early on, resulting in Morristown East only six points on two first half field goals. The Vikings also began the game with precise offensive execution early in the first quarter. …

Pigeon Forge (39-4) had gone wire-to-wire in the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association rankings since the preseason rankings were released in February. The only poll they would not be voted number one in 2022, however, would be the final rankings, as the Tigers lost …

BY BRIAN HAMILTON PIGEON FORGE – Mike Guinn picked up his 500th win as a head coach on Monday evening, as Pigeon Forge used a 14-run third inning to build an 18-1 lead over Alcoa in the second round of the Class 2A District 2 tournament.
