Seymour runs away from Sullivan East 42-7

BY BRIAN HAMILTON SEYMOUR – The Eagles looked a bit shaky early on, but began to pull away in the second quarter, en route to a 42-7 win over Sullivan-East. Josh Nevins recorded two pick sixes and the Seymour defense held the Patriots to just 116 yards of total offense. “The defense played fantastic,” Seymour head coach Scott Branton said. “They’re getting more aggressive each week and are playing with more and more confidence.” Seymour took an early 7-0 lead against Sullivan-East, but the Patriots would answer with a third down touchdown pass from Drake Fisher to Hunter Brown, tying …

The Eagles rolled up 459 yards of total offense, while holding the Fighting Cocks to just 154 total yards. “Offensively, we played really well,” Seymour head coach Scott Branton said. “We got out of our own way. BY BRIAN HAMILTON CHURCH HILL – After an 0-10 season in 2020, Seymour had gotten off to a 2-0 start before traveling to Church Hill to face Volunteer on Friday. The Falcons, however, would hand the Eagles their first loss of the season by a score of 28-14. “I don’t know if we walked off the bus thinking we were going to win because we were 2-0 and they were 0-2,” Seymour head coach Scott Branton said. “The theme of the game for Seymour was self-inflicted mistakes.” The game was tied at 7-7 late in the second quarter when Volunteer …

BY BRIAN HAMILTON GATLINBURG – The Seymour Eagles went winless in 2020, but snapped an 11-game losing streak, dating back to 2019, with a 14-13 overtime win against cross-county rival Gatlinburg-Pittman. It was ultimately a Wesley Zamoni extra-point, pushed back 10 yards due to penalty, that won the game. “Our word all week has been belief,” Seymour head coach Scott Branton said. “Our kids never lost the sight of belief. Last year was a learning experience. It was a tough year for everybody — not just football, but with everything going on in the lives of people with the pandemic. …
