After 4 Weeks Two Unbeatens Remain in Top 10

BY DANIEL SPARKMAN After a week of showcasing a number of teams in our area playing one another, we are left with just two teams remaining undefeated. The big game of the week was Alcoa versus Maryville. Alcoa did what they hadn’t since 2018 and that is beat Maryville. Our lone other unbeaten is Sevier County who saw a 19-0 victory at Pigeon Forge on Friday night. Dropping from the Top 10 this week was South-Doyle, Seymour and Grainger. Top 10 Following Week 1

BY DANIEL SPARKMAN Several teams start the season in the hole with a loss in Week 1. Out of our Preseason Top 10 we lose The King’s Academy and Seymour and welcome Lakeway Christian and Grainger. Lakeway Christian is looking for a strong start in their 3rd season on the field and trying to improve on a 3-4 record from a year ago. Carter falls to Webb in opener 46-21

BY BRIAN HAMILTON KNOXVILLE – Carter did not start the season the way Coach Justin Pressley had hoped after a solid showing in last week’s jamboree at Knox Central. The Hornets kept pace with Webb early, trailing just 19-14 at the half, but a 27-point second half by the Spartans sent Carter home with a 46-21 loss. Carter scores three runs in bottom of 6th to defeat Seymour and advance to district championship

BY BRIAN HAMILTON STRAWBERRY PLAINS – Tuesday’s game between Carter and Seymour was a game of runs. The Hornets jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning and then remained scoreless for the next three innings, while Seymour battled back to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth.
