South-Doyle falls to rival Central Knox 35-21

BY BRIAN HAMILTON KNOXVILLE – It was Thursday Night Rivals. It was South-Doyle’s homecoming. It was also wet, as both teams battled heavy rain throughout the game. The rain let up just enough for the homecoming court to remain dry at halftime, but started back heavy in the second half. Central Knox was able to take advantage of South-Doyle miscues and take a 35-21 win back to Knoxville against its traditional rival. Anderson County hands Cherokees first loss

BY BRIAN HAMILTON KNOXVILLE – Anderson County came into its matchup with South-Doyle with a record of 1-3 and upset undefeated South-Doyle 31-28. The Cherokees fumbled on a quarterback to running back exchange on the first drive, setting Anderson County up with great field position. However, two plays later, JaMichael Ham intercepted the Mavericks’ Walker Martinez for a pick six and a 7-0 lead with 8:26 left in the first quarter. South-Doyle extracts revenge against Oak Ridge with 28-20 win

BY BRIAN HAMILTON OAK RIDGE – South-Doyle put last year in the rearview mirror, where the Cherokees were shut out 14-0 against Oak Ridge in the Class 5A state semifinals, to defeat the Wildcats 28-20 on Thursday night. “It’s a really big confidence booster and it helps us find that we can compete,” South-Doyle head coach Clark Duncan said. “It’s a non-conference game between two really good programs.” Shawn Gary ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns to lead South-Doyle to victory, while Brandon Heyward finished with over 200 yards receiving for Oak Ridge.
