SEYMOUR – Carter saw its season end on Monday night at the hands of Anderson County. The Lady Hornets were swept in three sets, as the defending Region 2 champion Lady Mavericks looked strong and poised to make a return to the state championships in Murfreesboro next week.

Anderson County went ahead 3-1 early in the first set, before jumping out to a 14-7 lead and forcing a Carter timeout. The Lady Mavericks would only allow four points the rest of the way, winning the first set 25-11.

Carter played strong early in the second set, as the Lady Hornets took an early 1-0 lead before falling behind 4-2 with Anderson County’s Jayce Phillips serving. Carter would tie the game at 5-5, but the Lady Mavericks would go on a 7-1 run, forcing a timeout by the Lady Hornets.

Anderson County would go on to win the second set, but Carter did not panic, as the Lady Hornets had responded from a 2-0 deficit last week in the district semifinals, coming back from down 0-2 to stun Northview 3-2 and keep the season alive.

Carter was unable to summon the same magic on Monday, however, as the Lady Hornets lost the third set 25-14 and saw their season end at the hands of Anderson County 3-0.

Anderson County will face Gibbs on Tuesday evening at Seymour High School, in the region championship, as the Lady Mavericks look to make another run at state. Anderson County advanced to the state quarterfinals in 2021, before losing to eventual state champion Hume-Fogg.
